Statement

MY photographic purpose has been to find beauty in the evidence of use and misuse in the everyday human accoutrements—the things we buy, build and use and flaunt, then ignore and ultimately discard. My approach is to show how accident, human behavior and natural forces act on these entities, as well as how nature acts on nature itself. Self-trained, I am motivated to discover and express my emotional reaction to the changing physical world in both straight photography and its digital manipulation. Many of my photos are intended metaphors, images that suggest a human condition, a joke, a dream state or desire. I oscillate between abstract and botanical sets of mind, and sometimes architecture finds itself in my focus. Lately my interest has turned to creating my own scenes to photograph, and I'm increasingly drawn to the behavior of water. My influences include the 20th century abstract expressionist painters, as well as photographers Daniel Shore, William Eggleston, and Ernst Haas.
